In this seminar, we will explore the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics across diverse real-world applications. Drawing from my extensive experience in data analytics, we will delve into key projects that utilise advanced AI techniques for practical outcomes. Applications covered will include satellite data analysis, MRI imaging, drone-based monitoring, CCTV surveillance, bushfire detection, CO2 farming, environment monitoring and fake news detection.
I will share insights from collaborations with leading institutions such as KAIST, KARI, CSIRO, ETRI, EPFL, MIT Medialab, and various space and mining industries in Korea and Australia. Through these examples, we will examine how AI and data-driven technologies are being leveraged to solve complex challenges across multiple domains, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in pushing the boundaries of innovation.
This seminar aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the practical applications of AI and data analytics, demonstrating its potential to address real-world problems while fostering future advancements.

Assoc. Professor Jun Jo received his PhD in Knowledge-Based Systems from the University of Sydney in 1994. He then worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Key Centre of Design Computing at the University of Sydney, before joining Griffith University in 1996. Since then, Dr. Jo has led numerous interdisciplinary research projects, focusing on cutting-edge technologies such as computer vision, data analytics, machine learning, and AI. His work covers a broad spectrum of applications, including robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, IoT systems, satellite image analysis, and medical imaging.
With over 200 quality publications, Dr. Jo's academic contributions are well recognised within the global research community. He also holds prominent leadership positions as the Chair of the International Robot Olympiad Committee (IROC) and the President of the Australian Robotics Association. His commitment to fostering innovation and education is reflected in his active role in shaping the future of AI, robotics, and data science through his research and collaborations with leading global institutions.
