The Smart Sister Program (SSP) is an exchange platform for women scientists and engineers living in Korea. Its goal is to create networking opportunities for young women scholars and integrate international women scientists and engineers into the Korean science and technology community. The SSP supports various academic and cultural initiatives led by the next generation of women scientists and engineers.

  

Who is Eligible?

  • Students and researchers currently enrolled in science and engineering programs or working in STEM-related fields in Korea can apply.
  • All members are required to reside in Korea.

 

How to Participate?

  • Form a group of five to ten members and plan a variety of activities for your group.
  • Group activities should focus on developing careers, sharing research, and/or exchanging cultural experiences.

 

Group Composition

  • A leadership role is strictly limited to female student/researcher.
  • Inclusion of two or more nationalities is mandatory and the number of members should be between five and ten.
  • At least one member of Korean nationality should be part of the group.  
  • Male members are welcome to participate; however, they do not exceed 50% of the total group members.

 

Required Activities

  • Each group should hold at least two meetings during the activity period, with 70% or more of the members in attendance.
  • All members are strongly encouraged to attend the 2024 International Young Woman Scientist Camp (YWS Camp). Representatives from each group are required to present their group activities at the Camp.
    ※ 2024 YWS Camp will be held in Daejeon on August 13, 2024.
  • At the end of activity, each member should submit a brief review on this program.

 

Period of Activity and Benefits

  • Activity period: March 25th to August 11th, 2024
  • A total of four groups will be selected. 
  • The Funding amount for each group will be KRW 900,000. The amount may change depending on the evaluation of the proposal.
  • Activity expenses can be used for meeting expenses, honorarium for invited lectures, cultural experience fees, etc.
  • The representative (proposer) must use her credit card for all expenses.

※ Cash transactions are not allowed.

  • One group will receive an award for outstanding activities.
